Norfolk and Western Railway (Images of Rail)
|
| By : Nelson Harris |
This book will provide a visual display of the history of the N&W Railroad, which is based in Roanoke, VA. The book will span the years from 1881 to 1982 and will emphasize both rail hardware (locomotives, passenger cars, depots, etc.), and rail employees and passengers (shop workers, blacksmiths, conducters, presidents, etc.). The reader will travel the rail lines across bridges, through coal country, to small town depots and massive harbors, and look into the shops and foundries where engines were mastered, wheels shaped, and passenger cars upholstered and equipped.

Norfolk Southern 1995 Review.
|
| By : Scott Lindsey |
The purpose of this book is to review Norfolk Southern's current operations and how they have developed since 1982. Plenty has been written (deservingly) over the years about its steam program, but relatively little has been printed about the other 99.9 percent of NS activities. Although many scorn the black paint on the locomotives, NS's operations are very worthy of observation and go a long way toward explaining its success. The first section provides a brief review of NS's nine operating divisions. It is followed by four chapters describing how N&W and Southern integrated their operations over several key routes and gateways. A chapter is also devoted to the Thoroughbred Shortline Program, plus NS abandonments since the merger. Other chapters focus on current train designations and intermodal schedules. The book concludes with a complete roster of current NS locomotives and the dispositions that have occurred since 1982.

Northern Pacific Classic Steam Era
|
| By : Lorenz P. Shrenk, Robert L. Frey |
The Northern Pacific Railway, selected by Trains Magazine as the "All-American Railroad" was one of the country's great transcontinental railroads. It was created as a national venture, supported by the national government through immense grants of land. The railroad was responsible for opening a large region of the country to settlement and development. It was also the leader in the evolution of the steam locomotive, for the small "American" 4-4-0s to the huge steel monsters that hauled long....

Ontario & Western Railway Northern Division (Images of Rail)
|
| By : John Taibi |
The New York Ontario & Western Railway's Northern Division covered a distance of 150 miles from Oswego to Sidney. This line was in operation from the late 1800s up until it was abandoned in 1957. The O & W functioned as a freight and passenger line transporting coal, milk, tourists, and locals over a mostly rural landscape. John's book will feature all of the important elements of a rail history: images of depots, stations, bridges, tracks, trains, roundhouses, wrecks, and railroad personnel.
