By : Charles J., Jr. Jacques, Karen Morrison (Designer), Carl O. Hughes (Preface)
Kennywood, celebrathing its 100th birthday this year, has been part of the author's life for the better part of the last 50 years. Jacques is the park's unofficial historian. In 1982 he wrote Kennywood:Roller Coaster Capital of the World, which has sence sold some 23,000 copies. This summer he published his second books about Kennywood and the company's other parks: More Kennywood Memories. Jacques 58, grew up in nearby Natrona Heights, Pa., and first visited the park in 1947, but it was in the '70s that he became interested in Kennywood's history, along with the histories of other parks. His reserch involved hundreds of trips to Kennywood and sifting through old correspondence, conducting dozens of interviews, takening hundreds of pictures, reviewing company documents and photos. Jacques is an obessive researcher: the appendix to his new book notes that in 1932 the park's dance pavilion was remodeled, in 1940 it snowed on opening day, and this yer the Thunderbolt (coaster) got new headlights.
