In the 19th and early 20th centuries, when the train represented the apex of high-speed travel, railroad companies spared no artistic or monetary expense in the design and construction of their stations. Structures coast to coast, past and present, are represented in this history of American railroad terminals. A blend of archival photographs, both black-and-white and color, combine with modern color shots to relate the stories behind the design, the architecture, and the use of terminals like Grand Central Station and Pennsylvania Station in New York City, Washington, D.C.'s Union Station, Chicago's Dearborn Station and Union Station, Minneapolis' Milwaukee Road Station, and the Union Passenger Terminal in Los Angeles, to name a few.
